About me: Vaughn Chambers
Vaughn Chambers Editing is owned and run by me, Vaughn Chambers. Here are the things you’ll want to know about me:
I am a fully trained proofreader having undertaken courses run by the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP – formerly the Society for Editors and Proofreaders).
I have experience of drafting professional reports into finished documents and proofreading reports for errors.
I have specialisms include education, special educational needs, equality and inclusivity, social care, psychology, academic texts and sports.
I have significant experience of drafting and writing Special Educational reports making applications for Statutory Assessment and using professional reports to draft and write strong EHCPs.
… but I have a good general knowledge and am able to work on lots of other subject matter too.
Before 2016 I worked across a range of educational settings as a teacher for twenty years and, for a large period of this time, working with children with special educational needs. I have a broad knowledge of the subject matter, conventions and terminology of these areas of education as well as experience of working on the front line as a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator, Inclusion Manager and Behaviour Support Manager. Within my roles I have also managed large teacms of Teaching Assistants and taken an overview role in Safeguarding, the education of Children in Care and those children with English as a Second Language.
Between 2016 and 2019 I worked in different areas of Local Authority departments spending the largest part of this time working for a Statutory Assessment team with responsibility for managing and writing Education, Health and Care Plans. As a part of this role I had to use skills to work with a range of reports from Education, Health and Social Care professionals. I demonstrated good qualities being able to proofread these documents effectively and use them to draft and finalise coherent documents which clearly demonstrated the needs of children and the support they required. This had to be done in a way that was accessible to parents and other education professionals who may not have understood some of the jargon used by professionals.
This work demonstrated clearly my keen eye for using clear English, ensuring the correct use of spelling and grammar within texts and proofreading documents quickly but accurately when working within tight timescales.
I have an honours degree in Psychology, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and a Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis on Equality and Diversity.
